bio: Manuela Kalestiantz Fine Arts- Encaustic Artist Studied Art at "The Superior Academy of Fine Arts" in Lisbon, Portugal. Studied Painting and Sculpture. I started working with encaustics 6 years ago. I irrevocably fell in love with wax, the scent, the pliability, the possibilities and the sensuality of the medium. I love the vital role bees play in our world and our vital part in sustaining it. My work is fundamentally organic and highly textured. I like to think that my images are capable of pushing through their boundaries, step out of their confinements, materialize and free themselves form being a representation of a feeling or creative concept and become real.
on the importance of art:
Art encompasses so many different aspects - dimension, perspective, vocabulary, history, mathematical concepts - how to set up the project from beginning to end, abstract conceptualization and visualization. One needs to strategize the process of visual representation of a real subject or the interpretation of perceptions in one's mind or feelings in one's heart and soul. Art bridges the real and the imaginary creative spirit and translates it into a visible image. It is the missing link between reality and the soul. Art is descriptive in essence and has illustrated human relations to all things even the "Supreme" throughout the centuries. It illustrates beliefs, social standards, moral values, religious considerations, economical status, hierarchy of societal periods, oppression through religious representation, civilizations' needs; chronicling human evolution. It helps us to envision or consider the impossible or desirable; the worst enemy or a most trusted friend. Art enables us to look at something through someone else's eyes. It brings us together as a society and common people into union or discord and therefore we evolve. Through Art we become visionaries and illustrators of our civilization all in one step,it is a most powerful means of communication.
