Tara
Choate lives in Oregon City, works for a local non-profit,
and paints in transparent watercolor. She has been painting
since 2006, and was accepted into the Watercolor Society
of Oregon (WSO) in 2009. In the summer of 2010, she participated
in TRAGís First Friday series as well as the First City Celebration.
Animals are one of Tara's biggest inspirations. When viewing
her work, people always ask her if she has a horse; the answer
is, No, but I want one! Tara also takes commissions for pet
portraits. ìI like animals and would love to experiment more
with animals I donít know. I love experimenting with what
it takes to get the expression of a particular animal. |
| on
the importance of art: |
I
think art helps us keep in touch with who we are, individually
and as a society. For example, I think I'm drawn to
watercolor because itís the opposite of what
I do everyday (bookkeeping.) Itís just a little
out-of-control, and I like that. I like that you don't
have to be ultra-realistic to get a great result. I
like that you can let the paint do its own thing and
that sometimes makes the best paintings.
